Homework Types of Energy
There is energy associated with mass and velocity of an object. This is called Kinetic Energy and it is stored in an object by applying a force to an object which speeds it up. Heat refers to the Kinetic energy of the particles that make up an object. Others types of Energy refer to sources that are avaliable to be turned potentially into Kinetic energy, heat or light in the future. This potential energy is called Potential Energy. Chemical Energy that is avaliable when atoms recombine is called Chemical Potential energy. It is measured by sampling the chemical state and the amount of chemical avaliable. Putting 80 l of fuel into your car is putting Chemical Potential energy. Springs can store energy. A Spring that is under no compression or extension has no Potential energy. A compressed spring can release energy so has positive potential energy.
Make a list of types of energy - describing each.
What is meant when it is said the total Energy is constant

Homework Potential Energy
1. What is the Unit of Energy?
2. What is the Kinetic enegy of an object?
a) formulae
b) of 1 Kg travelling 0.707 ms-1
c) 1000kg travelling at 3.6 kmph
2. When 100N is applied to a brick 0.5 kg over 1 m
a) what is the acceleration?
b) what is the work done on the brick?
c) what is the Kinetic Energy?
d) what is the final velocity?
e) comment on the formulae
v^2 = u^2 +2ad, where v is the final velocity, u is the inital velocity, a is the acceleration, and d is the distance.

About Me

- drhill
- I come from a Science family: My father Geoffrey Hill was Australia's first computer programmer on CSIRAC the fourth computer in the world. He is credited with invention of Computer music and the development of “Interprogram” a language before Basic. My PhD is in Atomic and Molecular Physics. I have researched the activated oxygen layer above the ozone layer, and 'Assigned' the world's smallest molecule. At the University of Toronto I researched high power UV lasers. I have specialized in automation in fibre optics. This developed into research in Machine Intellect and Robots. I have enjoyed work as an Explainer with Questacon and my time as a part-time soldier. I currently teach High School Science at Epping Boys’ High.
